Research summary
A study to improve the frequency of patient pain score monitoring at University College Hospital(UCH). A recent pain department audit at UCH has demonstrated potential areas for improvement in the management of postoperative pain. Using a handheld computer device, patients in the study will be able to report pain scores more often than they are currently being assessed (currently every 4 hours). This proof of concept study aims to assess whether patients find technology such as this useful and practical and whether the device facilitates more frequent reporting of basic pain score data. Secondary outcome measures of differences in pain scores reported between the study groups and patient satisfaction will provide baseline data upon which further studies will be based.
