Research summary
The research is interested in the metaphors that are used to describe emotions within two therapy groups. The research will involve the collection and analysis of naturally occuring data within two CBT groups (including ’third wave CBT’ e.g. mindfulness, ACT etc). Each sessions of the time-limited groups will be recorded and then transcribed. Analysis will focus on instances where either clinicians or service-users have used a metaphors to describe their own or anothers emotional states. Initial analysis will look at the type and number of metaphors used. Secondary analysis will look at how and when metaphors were used in the conversation of the group, and how the interactions within the group impact on the metaphors used to describe emotions.
