Research summary
Clinical practice in haematological malignancy involves making difficult diagnostic and treatment decisions. The information informing these decisions needs to be communicated to patients to allow their involvement in deciding treatment options. Treatments in this setting are generally very demanding and unpleasant and require patients’ commitment and adherence in the face of these demands. Therefore patients’ understanding of the treatment options, and of the results on which they are based, is particularly important in this setting.
This study will comprise semi-structured interviews with a sample of 20 patients to explore how patients make sense of complex results and treatment decisions. The data will be analysed qualitatively. The findings will be published in order to help to inform clinical practice, and in addition, potentially inform communication education for clinical staff.REC name
