Research summary
Project Summary
In this feasibility study, we will assess the viability of implementing and evaluating a novel antenatal intervention, which combines an empowering antenatal health care model supported by a midwife and purposeful group sessions led by a professional maker. This group of women will function as a “sympathy group” (1)We will provide six antenatal and one postnatal “Making Mothers” session for 8 women and evaluate the intervention, outcome measures and the feasibility of running a large scale trial to address the question “do health outcomes improve when antenatal care is provided in the context of a group using a professional maker to facilitate conversation, introducing and developing craft skills”. The programme will take place in a community midwifery setting.
Note: making means that the women will come together to make something for their baby. the group will be facilitated by an professional artist (maker) who is experienced in working in a therapeutic context.
