Research summary
We are able to take pictures of the lungs which can measure the earliest signs of CF lung disease using a type of clinical scanner called MRI. We, and others, have previously shown that these pictures are much better than the clinical tests patients with CF currently have available to them to measure any changes in the lungs. We are now ready to use these pictures to help see what people with CFs lungs look like. We aim to measure patients who have taken part in our research in the past to find out how there lungs now look since we last saw them in 2018/19 and since new treatments became available. We can then use this information to measure people with CF who don't have these new treatments available to them to help in the future when clinical trials become available to them. Working with a team of clinicians, physicists, scientists, mathematicians and patients, we aim to make lung MRI a normal part of managing CF and reviewing future treatments.
