Data collection arrangements
The purpose of this project is to enable Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) to be used for scanning healthy volunteers at NHS Tayside and University of Dundee. For each participant, a set of MR images will be acquired for the anatomical area under investigation. Occasionally, a set of ultrasound (US) images will also be acquired to enable comparison of imaging techniques. All images will be stored securely and indefinitely on the NHS national Patient Archive Communication System (PACS). Further 'post-processing' data collection may also be undertaken - typically in the form of electronic regions-of-interest applied to the images to extract information such as tissue volumes or signal intensity levels. These data will be stored securely and anonymously for a period of at least 5 years.
Research programme
Having this programme in place will enable NHS and University colleagues to optimise MRI techniques for use in NHS clinical services (patient diagnoses). It will also enable the optimisation of MRI protocols for research projects, and also help with staff teaching and training activity.
