Research summary
Following a total hip replacement patients are susceptible to the formation of DVT. It is known that one of the causes of DVT is reduced blood flow due to the inactivity of being hospitalised. Foot compression can be used to increase blood flow, and this is standard care at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital. This study compares blood flow using foot compression with a novel new device called a gekp(TM).
