Data collection arrangements
This Tissue Bank is based in NHS Lothian and works closely with the University of Edinburgh. The material is stored at various sites within NHS Lothian and the University of Edinburgh.
The Tissue Bank supports a wide range of research involving disorders of the human body.
The material collected is from living donors and consists of residual or waste tissues that are surplus to diagnostic requirements or have been removed for therapeutic reasons and would normally be disposed of.
Tissue and tissue derivatives are stored either snap frozen or as paraffin embedded wax blocks. The collection of paraffin embedded tissue samples include material in the histopathology diagnostic archive.
The type of data linked to the samples depends on the research project but normally includes patient demographics and diagnosis. The data is derived from health records and is held on secure databases..Research programme
