    The basis for the proposed research is to consider the reasons why loneliness and social isolation effect the health and well-being of elderly people. The aim of the research is to explore potential interventions that healthcare professionals could undertake to alleviate the loneliness associated with social isolation experienced by older people on their caseloads.The method of the research is qualitative using focus groups and interviews to gather data, and the analysis will be thematic.
