  • Data collection arrangements

    Samples will be stored in designated tissue banks licensed to store tissue, this will include Birmingham Children’s Hospital but may extend to other licensed tissue banks. Samples will be collected during routine clinic visits, inpatient admissions and procedures. Consent will be taken after families have been given sufficient time to consider project. Consent will be taken by appropriately trained in accordance with Good Clinical Practice and on delegation log.

  • Research programme

    The Liver Unit is involved with many research projects investigating causes and outcome of liver disease. The bank will provide an valuable resource for new tests as and when they arise. The bank will also allow liver unit at Birmingham Children’s Hospital to collaborate with other paediatric liver units in England to pool resources investigating rare liver diseases where case numbers are very small
