Research summary
We would like to invite first and second degree family members of people living with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) to complete a set of online questionnaires (including questions on lifestyle, family history, medical history, anxiety & depression levels, fatigue levels, quality of life and motor function) and a set of online cognitive tasks, as this population is at an increased risk of developing MS in the future. The risk of MS in the general population is ~1 in 700, however this risk increases by 1.5% to 2.7% for first and second degree relatives of people living with MS.
We would then compare the questionnaire and cognitive task results to the general population to identify any study participants that have abnormal results compared to the general population. These participants would then be asked to come-in for further testing which would include an MRI scan and blood test.
By doing this testing process, we hope to understand more about how MS develops and the very early features of MS that may be occurring before the onset of visible symptoms.
