Research summary
Current estimates for the role of lifestyle factors in the development of colorectal cancer suggest that around 49% of the disease can be accounted for by high intakes of red and processed meat, alcohol, body weight and low levels of dietary fibre intake and physical activity. This evidence has not been widely disseminated within the general population or in those at increased risk of colorectal cancer. The aim of this proposed research is to assess current modifiable risk factors in patients at high risk of colorectal adenomas in order to assist with the design of evidence based communication for disease (colorectal cancer) risk reduction. Questionnaires will assess current smoking, diet, alcohol, activity and anthropometric measurements associated with colorectal cancer risk.
