Research summary
Lidocaine is a well know local anaesthetic agent, which has traditionally been infiltrated around an operative site to give pain relief. Recent research has demonstrated a pain relieving effect when lidocaine is given as an intravenous infusion. Studies have demonstrated a reduction in opioid requirements after several laparoscopic procedures such as laparoscopic cholecystectomy and laparoscopic bowel resection. We aim to investigate whether a single bouls of intravenous lidocaine reduces opioid requirements after day case gynaecological laparoscopic surgery.
