Research summary
COVID-19 is an ongoing global pandemic. In addition to various co-morbidities including diabetes, hypertension and obesity, changes in blood sciences including haematological, biochemical and other characteristics in patients with COVID-19 are emerging as important prognostic features of the disease. Reports of laboratory abnormalities in COVID-19 cases are emerging presently due to the ongoing research during the current pandemic. Of interest, the virus also has emerged to show discriminatory behaviour in various ethnic groups globally. We aim to retrospectively explore such characteristics and related risk factors in patients with COVID-19 and compare the laboratory abnormalities between the Caucasian and ethnic group and develop a prognostic model based on various laboratory results which will aid in managing future COVID-19 patients. Furthermore, where necessary, clinical observations and radiological findings will be collected for analysis to aid conclusions.
