Research summary
Examination of the kneeling ability before surgery during the routine attendance at pre-assessment clinic, and after the knee surgery we will examine the knee again during the routine follow up visits at 6 weeks and 1 year , at 6 weeks will examine the skin around the scar on the front of the knee for changes in the feeling in the skin, at 1 year after surgery we will examine the kneeling ability and compare the changes before and after the surgeryThe purpose of this study is to determine a knee replacement patients' perception and the reality for their kneeling ability before and after surgery and how the sensory changes after surgery can affect their kneeling ability of their ability to kneel.
We think it is very important to identify the factors which affect a patients' kneeling ability between different knee implant designs.
There is a difference between the perception and reality of kneeling ability in knee replacement patients as that ability is normally assessed by a questionnaire (Oxford Knee Questionnaire) and that is not entirely adequate.
This research proposal has been designed in conjunction with surgeons in our department who perform many knee replacement surgeries.
