  • Research summary

This study seeks to understand and develop a core set of outcomes important for older people living with frailty and progressive chronic kidney disease. The background for the development of this study is from the growing concerns of more older people with advanced chronic kidney disease living with frailty and the burden of the treatment and the disease is having on their quality of life. To better understand what will improve the assessment processes and management for these people there is a need to explore the use of a comprehensive geriatric assessment (used in the general population to provide holistic multidisciplinary care and planning) in a nephrology setting. However, before this type of study can be conducted in the nephrology setting it is important to understand what is important for older people living with advanced kidney disease and frailty, to ensure outcomes that are measured have meaning and relevance. This study therefore will focus on developing a core set of outcomes that will inform the development of a Programme Grant application looking at the implementation of a renal Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA).
