Research summary
Anaemia following hip fracture is common and associated with poor outcome in this elderly group of patients. There are some studies from Spain suggesting that intravenous iron may be a good way of reducing the number of patients who are anaemic or needing transfusions. This study is a small pilot study to see whether intravenous iron may be useful in the UK population.
