Data collection arrangements
The ISIS-2 Legacy Research Database contains data collected from patients during the ISIS-2 main trial. Recruitment took place between March 1985 and December 1987, with 6,231 patients recruited in the UK. Patients had had an acute heart attack and were a median age of 60-69 years old at randomisation.
This Research Database also contains data from NHS Digital (received between November 1986 and April 2016).There will be no further data collection from patients. All data will be stored securely. The University of Oxford has met the standards required as per the NHS Data Security & Protection toolkit. Our ICO Data Protection registration number is Z575783X. NDPH also has a fully implemented departmental Corporate Level Security Policy.
Research programme
This dataset is a very valuable resource. The randomised trials that generate this type of data typically cost tens of millions of pounds to conduct. It is our intention in due course and with appropriate approvals to carry out very long-term Follow-up (e.g. 30+ years) via electronic health records to help reinforce the argument that old-fashioned thrombolysis has substantial benefits (and can be widely applied). The University of Oxford consider that it would be irresponsible and not in the public interest to not retain this important database for future research into heart disease.
