Data collection arrangements
The research database includes non-identified data on patients within UK primary care practices which have agreed to contribute to the THIN or MRES data collection schemes.
The database consists of records entered by the GP practice such as:
- Patients’ details: year of birth, sex, practice registration date, practice de-registration date,
- Morbidity data: signs, symptoms, diagnoses with dates, referrals to hospitals and specialists,
- Prescription details: all prescriptions with date issued, formulation, strength, quantity, dosing instructions,
- Other information: smoking status, height, weight, immunisations, pregnancy, birth, death, test and laboratory results.
The research database does not include any direct identifiers.
As of November 2022, IMRD database contains non-identified electronic medical records (EMRs) from over 25 million patients in the UK, 4 million of which are actively registered in a THIN or MRES contributing GP practice.Research programme
