Research summary
We propose to measure activity levels and sleep patterns in Patients to determine the effect of exercise/activity on biological function and clinical outcomes, and to determine its effectiveness for use in complex disease genetics research. Measuring activity levels uses technology referred to as “wearable tech”. Examples of such technologies are the Basis peak (http://www.mybasis.com/ ) and the fitbug orb (https://www.fitbug.com/uk/orb?lng=en_UK ). This is an emerging field and has not been exploited to generate data for studies in complex disease genetics. We will assess the current technology in order to determine the most appropriate devices, and methodology, for studying human activity in clinical and genetic epidemiological research.
