  • Research summary

There is increasing data suggesting Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), a disease caused by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) [7], [8], [9] , is not simply a respiratory disease but includes widespread neurological changes such as cerebral infarcts. Furthermore, there is growing evidence of a secondary impact on mental health, coupled with research findings relating to the rise in mental health issues in the general population during/following previous pandemics. Thus, there is a clear need to evaluate the impact self-isolation has on the mental health of patients with COVID-19, and to work towards identifying effective measures to alleviate this impact.
