Research summary
Traumatic experiences are prevalent within the general population and this is particularly true within Northern Ireland. These experiences may have widespread impact on individuals daily functioning and mental health. Within mental health services it is therefore important to assess for these experiences as they may be implicated in presenting mental health difficulties.
Within the literature a wide variety of measures exist to capture trauma history and are often used as screening tools within services. However, there are a huge number of limitations, issues and discrepancies between measures. Indeed many of the measures have not been adequately tested for psychometric properties, including reliability and validity estimates. Consequently, this study aims to investigate the psychometric properties of the most common measures of trauma history with the goal of assessing reliability and validity within clinical and non-clinical samples.REC name
