Research summary
It is hypothesized (i) that the use of tablets to deliver study information, as compared to paper leaflets, will alter rates of consent to research participation; and (ii) that the perception of poorer health of one’s child is an important influencing factor in the increased participation of parents of pre-term children. We have designed a randomized controlled trial which uses a questionnaire to address hypothesis (ii) and simultaneously tests hypothesis (i) without drawing attention to the issue and inducing conscious bias. The results will shape how parents are approached for research – with a tablet or with hardcopies of relevant research information, using a similar approach for parents of both pre-term and term babies or two different approaches.
