Research summary
This single person study will aim to examine the link between Type 1 diabetes and the neurological condition stiff person syndrome.
Both conditions are known to be auto-immune in nature. By testing one patients blood for immunological factors we hope to establish exactly which autoimmune components are common to both diseases.
In order to do this, 4 blood samples will be taken from one patient (separated by 1 month) who has both conditions. The patient has agreed to this verbally and formal, written consent will be sought.
The responses will then be compared to 12 control samples. Blood samples will be taken from 12 control individuals (6 with type 1 and diabetes and 6 without).
