  • Research summary

Asthma and allergic rhinitis affects approximately 10-20% of the population and therefore represents an important global health problem. About one third of patients with asthma have allergic rhinitis and vice versa. Patients who have both allergic rhinitis and asthma have a greater burden in terms of impaired quality of life.
The presence of airway twitchiness is one of the hallmarks of asthma. In this study, we aim to compare the effects of using the steroid and antihistamine (fluticasone propionate plus azelastine) combination nasal spray on airway twitchiness. We believe that using the combination nasal spray will improve airway twitchiness.
Eligible participants will be those participants with a diagnosis of allergic rhinitis and asthma who are already on asthma treatment with at least inhaled steroids and demonstrate a significant degree of airway twitchiness.
