Research summary
INTERLIVER is a prospective observational study of the relationship of the molecular phenotype of 300 liver transplant biopsies to the histologic phenotype and the clinical features and outcomes. A segment of a biopsy performed as standard-of-care for indications, or by centre protocol, will be stabilized immediately in RNAlater and sent to the ATAGC in Edmonton. ATAGC will follow algorithms used to develop diagnostic classifiers for kidney, heart, and lung transplants to create classifiers for the rejection and injury/fibrosis status of liver biopsies. Once the classifiers are ready (after the first 100 biopsies) a report format will be developed to permit real-time reporting to the center (marked “for research purposes only”). The clinician will evaluate the potential impact of the MMDx-Liver™ molecular diagnostic report on patient care.
