Research summary
People who have a family member who requires intensive care from professional support workers after a brain injury face many challenges. For example, having focused and worked hard during rehabilitation to get “home” and “be a family” again, only to find that being at home means having extra people there, people you have only come to know since the injury. These people may have different life experiences and ideas to your own and yet come to know vast amounts of intensely personal information about the identified recipient of care, but also the wider family. The aim of this study is to investigate the experiences of family members of people who need intensive professional support in a home setting to:
(a) Find out what this is like and (b) what may be helpful for families to consider when faced with this situation to (c) contribute to a practical guide for other families faced with a similar situation and to (d) help staff training about things they can do to make home based care teams work better.REC name
