  • Research summary

National governmental policies and international healthcare research emphasize the importance of Patient and Family-Centred Care (PFCC). This benchmark study will explore the feasibility and acceptability of a PFCC care bundle in intensive care (ICU) from the perspective of intensive care patients, their families and nurses. We will engage with these 3 stakeholders to identify facilitators and barriers to PFCC bundle in ICU. Further, will will develop a list of care activities that will form part of a PFCC bundle in ICU, thus helping to transform care delivery and improve the patient and family experiences in ICU. This study offers a ’bottom-up’ approach taking seriously the experiences of ICU patients, family members and ICU nurses in examining the feasibility and acceptability of a PFCC bundle in the ICU. The study will generate novel insights into what a PFCC bundle in ICU means and which care activities are acceptable from the perspective of the 3 stakeholders. This is in line with policy objectives and the quality agenda of the Scottish Government and NHS Lothian.
