Research summary
The study comprises two phases, at each of which the participant and carer will be interviewed by an investigator in a clinic setting or at their home. The participant and carer will complete a selection of questionnaires (detailed below) as a measure of insight and Quality of Life and care-related clinical factors.
Participants will be people over 65 years, have a diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease, and will be drawn from the NHS Old Age Psychiatry services in Forth Valley and Glasgow. Only those willing to participate with capacity to consent, who have a carer who is in contact with them at least twice per week will be included.
In the first phase the participant and carer will be invited to attend to complete the questionnaires in a clinical interview conducted by a researcher from the study. These will entail:The patient:
1. A demographic data sheet
2. Addenbrook Cognitive Examination-Revised
3. Quality of Life Scale - Alzheimer's Disease
4. The Memory Awareness rating Scale
5. Hospital Anxiety and Depression scaleThe Carer:
1. A demographic data sheet
2.The Zarit Burden Interview
3.Quality of Life Scale-AD
4.The Neuropsychiatric Inventory Questionnaire
5. Disability Assessment for Dementia
6.The Memory Awareness Rating Scale
7. WHO Quality of life-BREF
8. Hospital Anxiety and Depression scale
9. Burns Relationship Satisfaction scaleThe second phase will be to follow up the same cohort of participants and carers after 1 year (+/- 28 days)they will undergo the same procedure as a year earlier.
Data from both phases will be compared, analysed and stored.
