Research summary
To perform a cross sectional observational study to assess the underlying genetic mechanisms underlying the two commonest groups of diseases, inherited arrhythmia syndromes and cardiomyopathies. This will enable us to have a greater understanding of the underlying pathways that are involved in the development and progression of inherited cardiac diseases. The study aims to enhance understanding of the disease pathophysiology and highlight their potential preclinical diagnostic and prognostic value. This will be achieved by correlating the genotype with the phenotype. This will help to evaluate the role of genetics for diagnostic and prognostic purposes, provide insight into the pathways involved in disease expression, and potentially provide the basis for trials of pharmacological treatments.
