Data collection arrangements
The resource aims to support research into the mechanisms of inflammatory liver diseases (steatohepatitis, autoimmune liver diseases and liver cancer) by analysis of liver tissue, blood cells, serum / plasma, DNA, urine and stool samples. All donors will be provided with written information about the biobank and written consent is required. The additional samples collected for the biobank will be taken at the time of routine clinical care in patients undergoing liver biopsy, or liver resection. Individuals who have already had a historic pathology specimen collected, will be invited to consent for the data / reports to be collected and additional blood / urine and stools samples for the biobank. Samples and data of all participants in the biobank will be anonymised. The biobank aims to support national and international scientific collaborations in the area of inflammatory liver diseases. Donors and interested patients or family members are invited to become part of the Peninsula Liver Research Patient and Public Involvement group.

This research biobank will support the work of the Liver Research Group at Plymouth University Peninsula Schools of Medicine & Dentistry, and collaborators at other centres in the UK and internationally who are working on understanding the mechanisms of inflammatory liver diseases to identify new treatments.
