  • Research summary

This study aim is to better understand how the on-going coronavirus pandemic is affecting individuals who are seeking treatment for common mental health disorders within our Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) services at NELFT NHS Foundation Trust, including depression and anxiety. There is considerable stress and uncertainty at this time, but some individuals will have effective coping mechanisms and ways in which they are coping with this stress, whereas others may have different perspectives on the pandemic, which may be associated with more or less anxiety or depressive symptoms. \nAll adult participants over the age of 18 within the database of people who have consented to be approach for IAPT related research studies will be approached by our Clinical Studies Officers to complete the online self-report measure during the coronavirus pandemic in 2020.\nThe online survey will consists of four parts and it will take approximately 30-45 minutes to complete. The survey will explore different levels of anxiety, depression, intolerance of uncertainty and coping strategies.\nAnalysis of the survey results will indicate how the different domains relate to each. Understanding how these coping strategies and perspectives are associated with depression and anxiety will be important in order to identify people who need additional support at this time, as well as people who have coping skill and perspectives that are helpful at this time. Identifying these strategies would be beneficial for adapting our primary care psychological services at this time and supporting others. \n\n
