Data collection arrangements
The tissue samples and data in this database were initially collected for the INCISE study, which aimed to transform bowel cancer screening in the UK by developing a tool that can predict which patients with polyps will develop further polyps. We aim to establish a research database, as part of the NHS GG&C Biorepository, to make digital images of patient tissue available to the research community. The images have been produced by the INCISE study and contain no identifying information beyond a unique identifier. This database will operate under strict governance, managed by the NHSGGC Biorepository, and will adhere to all necessary ethical approvals and governance protocols. Researchers will gain access to the data via a formal application process, which will be reviewed by the INCISE management group to ensure compliance with the Biorepository’s guidelines. Our goal is to simplify data sharing and support ongoing research efforts without requiring additional ethical approvals for individual projects.
Research programme
The database will support a wide range of research. The primary aim of the research using this database is to improve understanding of disease mechanisms, develop new diagnostic tests and identify better ways to monitor, diagnose, prevent and treat diseases. Researchers from academic institutions and research organisations will be able to request access to the data. Initial collaborations will include KU Leuven, a prominent university in Belgium, with potential for expanding partnerships in the future. The research conducted using this database will ultimately contribute to advancements in healthcare and medical innovation.
