Research summary
This qualitative study is part of a wider research project to improve the care experience of older patients with cognitive impairment and their carers/families whilst in acute hospitals. It aims to explore the experiences of older patients and their carers / families. This will be achieved by following a small number of patients throughout their stay in a large local acute NHS Trust. Both positive and negative experiences will be explored in depth. Participant observation will be used to explore patient experiences, as well as interviews with carers/family members and staff. There will be active involvement of two bespoke involvement groups: a Consumer Reference Group and Expert Reference Group.
