• Research summary

  Age related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of blind registration in the UK. Treatment is restricted to a small proportion of patients and rarely cures the condition. The project will improve visual capacity in patients with AMD by delivering an optimised home rehabilitation tool. It will employ computer-based methods to identify the best way of improving reading and facial recognition ability in patients with the condition. This may result in improved visual function and quality of life, fewer repeat clinic appointments, and a reduction in the substantial burden of the condition on the NHS.
