Research summary
The specific aim is to investigate whether a shared experience programme within an Early Intervention in Psychosis Service produces positive changes in people’s wellbeing measured through the following scales; Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale, Global Functioning Scale, Health of the Nation Outcome Scale, Clinical Outcomes in Routine Evaluation, UCLA Loneliness Scale, Calgary Depression Scale for Schizophrenia and the Social functioning scale, compared to service users who receive Treatment As Usual within the same team.
Shared experience is defined in this study as the befriending of two consenting service users who have both volunteered to participate in the study. Participants will be expected to meet on a minimum of six occasions over a three month period to offer social contact through sharing experiences and integrating within the local community. It is expected that positive changes will be seen in the scales in the above measures in both members of the pair.
