Research summary
Over recent years modern imaging research has lead to the emergence of new technologies to investigate the health of different structures in the eye. Two of these technologies, corneal confocal microscopy and macular pigment optical density, will be assessed in this pilot study. We will evaluate the relationships between the data produced from the two methods in diabetic eye disease and age-related macular degeneration.
Three groups of patients will be recruited from ophthalmic clinics under the direction of Professor Tariq Aslam:
Patient group A
severe AMD patients, n=25
Patient group B diabetic
patients with and without diabetic maculopathy, n=25
Patient group C type
2 diabetes patients, n=25The tests will be performed at Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Facility, Manchester.
