  • Research summary

    The problem:
Many people living with dementia feel anxious or depressed. Few researchers have studied how these conditions are managed by GPs and other health care professionals who work in the community, despite most people with dementia living at home.

    I will find out:
    • What people with dementia and anxiety/depression, their carers and health/social care professionals think about the identification, support and treatment they get in the community for anxiety/depression and
    • How this can be improved.

    How I will do this

I will talk to people with dementia who have anxiety/depression, their carers and people working in the NHS and social care, about how they cope with anxiety/depression and the support they get in the community. I will talk to around 45 people from different groups/backgrounds. Interviews will take place in participants’ homes or remotely via phone or video call.

    What will this lead to

Results will be shared via different activities (workshops/blogs/podcasts) and inform the co-production of resources, such as videos and infographics. This work could be included in national guidelines and improve how anxiety and/or depression in identified and managed in people living with dementia.
