Research summary
The epidemiology of acute pancreatitis has been fairly well characterised with regard to risk factors. However, it is not known why some people progress to more severe disease requiring critical care. This study will be based on approximately 3,000 patients who had been admitted to hospital with acute pancreatitis. Health data on these patients will be linked from a range of national and local sources. The linked data will be analysed to help describe characteristics of patients with acute pancreatitis, specifically those requiring treatment in clinical care.
