Research summary
This is an observational, multi-centre, mixed methods (cross-sectional and retrospective) research study of patients with a childhood diagnosis of Crohn’s Disease or Ulcerative Colitis who have transitioned from paediatric care to adult gastroenterology care services.
The study will involve a total of 200 patients (approximately 100 with and 100 without transition care) across 10 UK secondary/tertiary care gastroenterology services. Patients will actively take part in the research, via completion of questionnaires at a single point in time. In addition, retrospective clinical outcomes and resource use data will also be collected from hospital systems and medical notes.
The study will explore whether patient outcomes are better with a structured transition service compared to no structured transition service. Answering these questions will enable clinicians to offer effective transition services to their patients, which may lead to improvements in patient outcomes following transfer to adult services. Moreover such data would be useful in informing funding and reimbursement of services.
All data will be provided in a pseudonymised form to pH Associates for analysis. Analyses will be both descriptive and comparative in nature.REC name
