Research summary
Patients born with hypodontia (missing adult teeth) are seen on a multidisciplinary Hypodontia clinic by an orthodontist and restorative dentist. The condition is discussed with the patient (and parents where appropriate) and treatment options are explained. Treatment usually involves orthodontic braces to adjust the position of the teeth which are present and the restorative dentist will discuss options to fill the gaps where there are missing teeth. Currently patient information leaflets on hypodontia and fixed braces are given to the patient. The purpose of this study is to develop a patient information app which will outline the condition, the cause, the management and show photographs of completed cases. This study will explore whether information in this format to support the consultation means that patients are better informed and have more comprehension than when the app is not used.
