Research summary
The study aimed to investigate whether a single session of hypnotherapy (in addition to all normal interventions) given to lumpectomy patients in hospital prior to their operation improved their recovery quality. The study team would investigate (by way of quality of life questionnaire at an agreed time after the operation), areas such as level of anxiety, experience of pain etc. These would be compared against baseline responses and the response of a control group who did not receive hypnotherapy. The aim was to show that hypnotherapy might improve the patient experience and potentially save money on longer term interventions through enhanced recovery quality.
