Research summary
The aim of Hydration HEALTH is to investigate how temperature and humidity, food and drink intake, and fluid loss relate to hydration in elderly populations. The study is a pilot study which will collect data from within a nursing home over a 2 week period. Data collection includes meteorological data (temperature and humidity measured inside and outside the building), food and fluid intake, and data from residents relating to hydration status (predominantly urine and sweat samples, and skin temperature).
Internal and external temperature and humidity can affect dehydration amongst elderly people. The primary aim of this study is to develop a monitoring system that can be used to measure and compare fluid intake, dehydration and meteorological variables for a small population in a care home.REC name
