Research summary
The presence of fungus in the respiratory tract often causes respiratory symptoms. By identifying fungal disease and working to help reduce fungal burden and by improving housing stock and the way in which patients live in their houses we hope to reduce disease progression, reduce hospital admissions and improve quality of life.
The collaborative project between Cardiff University, the All Wales Adult CF Service and Swansea University will investigate the status of mould and damp in Cystic fibrosis patients’ homes using building monitoring technology, and use the Secure Anonymised Information Linkage (SAIL) Databank to understand the primary and secondary care cost reduction achievable by better home condition.
