  • Research summary

The EQ5D is a tool used to measure health-related quality of life. At the Christie this tool forms part of the electronic patient reported outcomes measure (ePROMs) survey that is sent to patients with lung cancer who have received radiotherapy as part of their treatment pathway. It is sent to patients to complete after they are diagnosed and during their follow-up. Clinicians are able to see responses that their patients give ahead of appointments e.g. feelings of depression or pain, so they can follow these up appropriately. ePROMs completion is optional and is provided to patients as a link through email or their mobile phone.

This study will use a delphi survey to ask patients what they think about the EQ5D, how easy or difficult it is to complete and whether it provides a useful measure for each of the 5 items it covers (mobility, pain, self-care, usual activities and anxiety/depression) and the thermometer scale to score health. We will also ask respondents what other items they would like to see included in these questions.

The delphi survey will have up to three rounds of a survey, with the aim to reach consensus by round 3 on what patients think. Each round will be changed slightly based on the answers from the previous round.

Results will be shared with the clinical and ePROMs team at the Christie to inform them on patient views of this measure and how it might be improved in the future. The results will also be shared on the study website.
