  • Research summary

Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) is a cause of young adult hip pain and there are associations with hip osteoarthritis. There are a number of hip shapes that are associated with FAI. The prevalence of these shapes in the general population is not well described. The study population will be patients who have undergone a CT scan due to major trauma. The scans will be analysed to determine the prevalence of FAI hip shape abnormalities in the general population. Patients whose CT scans were analysed will be written to and asked to complete a questionnaire about their hip symptoms. The study will determine the prevalence of hip shape abnormalities in the general population and proportion of patients with hip shape abnormalities that are symptomatic.
