Research summary
To establish attitudes, knowledge, and other relevant factors influencing changes in (isolation) behaviour during pandemic, across various cohorts in rural and remote areas of Highlands.
Recruitment will be by posts placed on the "Facebook" social-media platform, on pages/groups associated with rural localities. Paper flyers will also be distributed to community groups to avoid bias to technology-literacy. Volunteers will be given a study specific email to contact if they are interested in taking part and further discussion will take place by direct, person-to-person email or phone. No discussion involving personal matters will be entered into on Facebook. Any comments with personal information will be deleted.
Volunteers will be consenting to four telephone interviews over 12 months - one initial one, then one approximately every 4 months after that.
Interview coverage
• Demographics (eg gender/age/household/location/education/healthstaus/socioeconomic status)
• Views about perceived threat of COVID (and guidelines) to person and significant others
• Responses /behaviours to that perceived threat (ie following guidelines) ‘help seeking behaviour’ re: health
concerns?
• Where do they access their information
• Interpretations and trust of guidelines and information
• Personal challenges to adhering to guidelines
• Community characteristics/response to COVID (do they feel included?)
• Possibly look at impacts. (eg MH,finance),
• When restrictions are lifted what effect does it have (ie do people change their behaviour?/what might they do differently/ what would help? How secure do they feel? EtcAnalysis
• Compare/contrast different demographic responses
• Thematic (Identify common themes that emerge from interviews)
Each interview recording will be transcribed. A coding schema will be then be developed which identifies comments or issues raised by different people that are linked by common themes, allowing these to be indexed . A thematic two level analysis will be conducted - first of all any coherent patterns emerging from the identified themes will be identified, then further thematic analysis would then be used to identify the key issues and themes.REC name
