Research summary
Hypertension (high blood pressure) is widely recognised as an important public health concern. The effect on blood pressure (BP) when blood pressure medication is administered at different times of day is less explored and may be of importance in the treatment of hypertension. This trial aims to study the difference in 24 hour BP control when BP lowering medications are taken in the morning compared with the evening. 100 participants will be recruited from sites in UK and Greece(50 in UK and 50 in Greece). Once consented, they will be randomly allocated to either take the BP medication in the morning (between 06:00 and 11:00; Group A) or evening (between 18:00 and 23:00; Group B). After 12 weeks of treatment, participants will cross over from taking their medication in the morning to evening (Group A to Group B) and vice versa and followed up for another 12 weeks. Further information on changes in glucose, cholesterol and quality of life will be collected and examined.
