    Summary of Research
With a prevalence of 8%, recurring headaches such as migraine are one of the most common chronic pain conditions in children and young people (CYP). CYP experience not only physical pain but report a lower quality of life, more missed school days, and a higher need for pain medication and medical support than their peers.

Happyr Health has developed a mobile app for children & teenagers that supports CYP in their daily management of pain symptoms and emotional wellbeing. This study aims to understand to what extent young people with primary headaches accept and implement the app in their pain self-care.

CYP aged 10-16 with recurrent headaches are invited to the study during their neurology appointment with Dr Ray at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. After receiving more information about the study, those interested will get a link to the app and are asked to use it for 8 weeks. Two short questionnaires, one at the beginning and one at the end of the 8 weeks, will additionally be completed in the app. If desired, participants can continue using a published version of the app after the study has ended.

Headache diaries are commonly recommended to facilitate patient-provider communication. Yet, so far most diaries have been developed for adults. The Happyr App was specifically designed for CYP to engage them in their disease self-management.

    Summary of Results
Profile of contacted patients Ten patients living with migraine who are followed by Dr. Ray in a paediatric neurology clinic at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust were informed about the study. Patient ages ranged from 10 to 18 years old. Recruitment results From 24th March 2022 to 19th April 2023, Dr. Ray informed ten potential participants of the study, and contact information for four of these patients was forwarded from the research nurse to Nicola Filzmoser. These four patients received a sign-up link for the intervention (Happyr App). However, none of the interested participants signed the consent/assent form in the app to enable the collection of their app usage data. As such, no usage data were recorded in the app’s database. As the study could not recruit participants within 12 months, the study was closed by the sponsor on 19th April 2023. As no data were recorded, no data analyses were conducted. Potential reasons for the challenges in recruiting participants are discussed in the following section
