Research summary
We aim to compare 2 methods of straightening the proximal interphalangeal joint in the lesser (small toes) used to correct toe deformities. The first method involves excising the joint of the toe and maintaining the straightened position with a wire (Kirschner wire) which is removed at 6 weeks. The second method also excises the joint and uses soft tissue repair and strapping to maintain the toe position, avoiding the use of wires.
We plan to measure patient reported outcome scores and patient satisfaction (questionnaires) at 2, 6 and 52 weeks. We will also record any complications resulting from surgery in both groups.REC name
